This is what resonated with me, following our class on Sept. 28.
Teacher inquiry is a choice teachers undertake to improve their practice. Teaching is a craft that requires courage. Inquiry is a personal challenge taken on that requires the courage to overcome the fear that is inherent in self-discovery and change. It is an investment in oneself as a teacher and in our students, who are the future. Therefore, it is a commitment to making change and not maintaining the status-quo. The change is made via reflection, questioning and research that supports/justifies our intentions. Teacher inquiry is about being self-aware, about asking ourselves why we do something rather than just doing it. Finally (or not) teacher inquiry is an ongoing cycle that puts the power to make a difference back in the hands of the individual teacher.
